When it comes to the listings we represent and the homes our BUYER clients are interested in, our questions regarding a solar installation on a home do not change. As a buyer or a seller, here’s what’s important to find out about a pre-installed home solar system.
1. WHO MAKES IT?
The manufacturer of the solar panels is crucial to know. It affects the quality, reputation, reliability, warrant, and value of the system.
What is covered, how long is it covered, and is it still valid. These are all the questions to know answers to surrounding a solar system’s warranty.
3. LEASED, OWNED FINANCED?
How is the solar system owned? What are the payments? If leased, what happens at the end of the term?
4. DATE OF INSTALL?
When was the system installed, what was the technology and efficiency of the product when installed? What is the life left on the system?
5. KW/H produced annually?
How much energy is the system producing. Asking to see the customer’s annual net energy metering true-up statement (NEM document) is a good first step here.
After these questions have been answered, a solar system inspection is commonly our next recommended action.
